Vanishing Frogs
I took this entry excerpt from my sister’s blog:
http://thelede.blogs.nytim
es.com/2007/02/20/a-fungus -brings-dinosaurs-fate-to- frogs/ For
years now we’ve been hearing about how amphibian populations are on the
decline due to environmental changes… and it’s been fairly easy to
ignore what’s been going on when a few species of frogs in some remote
amazon forest disappear, right?Imagine stepping outside on a
warm summers night in the country to the deafening silence of a world
with no chorus of frogs chirping and bellowing away from the trees or
lily pads. This isn’t just an alarmist ‘hippy’ threat…. this is the
very real, very sad future our children and theirs may have to face
thanks to the chytrid fungus that is systematically wiping out
amphibian populations across the globe. I hope I’m not alone in finding
this devestating.

ive read a couple of articles on the aquatic life and how we’re damaging it. frogs are being born with several deformities because of bugs that live in snails, which are brought about my manure/fertalizer. the bugs get into frog eggs, and block where the leg is supposeed to grow and causing them not to have one, etc. male frogs and fish are also being found to have ovaries. it’s really terrible. frogs are fun little animals. and fish are pretty. as a kid i used to always go into the river and try to catch the little fishies, and i used to jump to catch the frogs. its little experiences like that that really make a kid happy. and is one i don’t want my kids to miss out on.
no, its just that its been so easy and now it all of a sudden is hard. i’m doing it, but my eyes are puffy from all the crying.
